The Pathfinders Program at Baylor University supports first-year students in their transition to college life, enhances academic success, and promotes personal growth. Through intentional programming, mentoring, and hands-on experiences, students gain the tools and resources to explore scholarly opportunities and become strong candidates for competitive programs.
The Pathfinders Program is designed with a "low time commitment, high reward" approach, making it accessible and impactful for first-year students balancing their transition to college.
Program Timeline
Beginning in Fall 2026, students will participate in an introductory workshops to connect with program staff, peers, and mentors while learning about upcoming opportunities. In Spring 2027, Pathfinders will enroll in the STL Pathfinders Program course, where they will explore undergraduate research pathways, develop key application materials, and prepare for future research and graduate opportunities. The year concludes with the Pathfinders Program Completion Ceremony to celebrate students' accomplishments and growth throughout the program.

Program Benefits
Pathfinders Program members will:
- Explore research interest and opportunities at Baylor and beyond
- Create and strengthen application materials (resume/CV, personal statement, references/letters of recommendation)
- Develop interviewing skills
- Build relationships with peers, scholar mentors, faculty, and staff at Baylor
- Gain personal, academic, and professional development across multiple program pillars
Upon successful completion of the program, Pathfinders Program members will:
- Earn course credit for the STL Pathfinders Program course (Spring 2027)
- Be recognized at the Pathfinders Program Completion Ceremony (Spring 2027)
- Be strong candidates for McNair Scholars Program and other competitive opportunities
- Be connected with Baylor programs in the Office of Engaged Learning (Provost Scholars, Engaged Fellows, B-True)
Eligibility
The Pathfinders Program is open to first-year students (freshmen or first-year transfers) of all majors who are interested in undergraduate research.
The program especially seeks to support students who identify with one or more of the following:
- First-generation college student
- From a low-income background
