Sabrina Goss
Sabrina Goss is from Fairbanks, Alaska and served in the U.S. Airforce for 10 years before attending Baylor for her undergraduate degree in environmental science. When she graduates, Sabrina hopes to work with State parks as a ranger.
"I came to college straight out of the military, when I was still on-leave." Sabrina spoke on her Baylor experience, "Coming in, the hardest thing was finding a sense of belonging as an older and post-traditional student. I've been through more worldly experiences than the typical college student and I also have to juggle life with my two kids at home."
To acclimate, Sabrina joined the VETS program, which connected her to different parts of campus and resources to help her thrive, "In the military, you're given a rigid and detailed schedule to follow. But here in college, it's more up in the air. The VETS program helped connect me to the Success Center resources, where my advisor helped me put together a schedule to make sure I get everything done."
The VETS program also helped Sabrina find a sense of community amongst her peers and within the wider community, "One of my favorite parts about the VETS program is the VETS lounge they created where I can decompress and connect with people who have gone through similar experiences as me. But the program also helped me find out about different clubs on campus so that I can widen my circle and get a full Baylor experience." Sabrina said. She is currently a part of the Transfers Honors Society and is also a member of the Environmental and Geology honors society.
"The program helped me get comfortable so that I could get involved in a way that I would not have even thought about before," Sabrina said, "They gave me support and pointed me towards the resources I needed. It's great to know that they have my back."
